Spread checks are usually carried out when there is a major infestation of bed bugs in a particular flat or room or if there is a suspicion that more flats are affected. Having an overall view of the total spread is important to be able to start decontamination in several places at the same time. It can take up to 2-3 months before you notice that you have bedbugs, especially in cases where you do not react to the bites.

Dogs have around 300 million olfactory receptors, compared to humans’ five million. This makes their sense of smell over 10,000 times better than ours. That’s why search dogs are used to find everything from drugs to cancer – and of course bedbugs.

Bed bugs emit specific scents in the form of different pheromones. These pheromones the dogs are trained to find and mark. The dogs are also trained to ignore dead bed bugs and old droppings.
